So how can this information be translated into action in our schools so that our children are able to use the computer more effectively? These are questions our community needs to raise with teachers and appropriate officials as we move into the new school year. It will certainly require new ways of thinking, but new ways of thinking are what we need as enter the Digital Age. The more our children understand how these games work, the more capable they will be to take advantage of the new job opportunities this industry will create.

And, in that regard, here's some information that might be useful to you as you try to keep up with what's going on and get resources for your community.

The United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania has launched their Teaming For Technology Assistance Program. Available to nonprofit organizations in the Philadelphia area, this program provides technical support and assistance for organizations for a minimal fee. The CTCNet Regional Conference for the Delaware Valley on September 20, 2002. Entitled "Growth through Collaboration." The conference will focus on Regional Resources, Tools of Collaboration and Specific Successful Collaborations. The U.S. Department of Education, Center for Faith-Based and Community Initiatives has competitive grants available for after school and tutoring programs. For more information check out their website, http://www.ed.gov/offices/OIIA/faithandcommunity/index.html.

 

The Philadelphia School District and Philadelphia Charter Schools - Community Academy, Harambee and Performing Arts, are eligible to qualify for Enhancing Education Through Technology (EETT) grants. Proposal submissions are due by September 30, 2002. For more information grant guidelines, visit the Pennsylvania Department of Education's website, http://www.pde.state.pa.us/eettguidelines.
